St. John's Eve

St. John’s Eve is approaching, and with it, one of the most magical nights of the year. For us, this celebration has always held a special place. In recent years, we have shared with you legends, stories and curiosities about this night so deeply rooted in our Mediterranean culture – the night of fire, the sea, wishes and witches… And this year, we want to do it again.

The Legend of the Purifying Fire

Tradition says that on St. John’s Eve, fire has magical powers. According to legend, many years ago people lit great bonfires on the evening of June 23rd to burn away everything old and negative: fears, bad memories, illnesses and unfulfilled hopes.

Neighbours would write on small pieces of paper what they wished to leave behind and throw them into the fire. Then, they would jump over the flames three times to purify themselves and start the summer with renewed energy. It was said that whoever did so with a clean heart would enjoy health and good fortune throughout the year.

That night, the beach was filled with lights, music and smiles, and the waves carried away the last wishes written on shells cast into the sea.

Even today, many of these traditions endure, and perhaps, if you close your eyes and listen carefully, you will hear the echo of that ancient night in the crackle of the fire and the murmur of the waves.
